Stainless Steel 317/317L Stud Bolts are made up of an austenitic alloy of 16–18% chromium, 11–15% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum, with trace amounts of carbon, manganese, and silicon. The low-carbon variant (317L) is suitable for better resistance to welding-induced sensitization. The presence of molybdenum improves the resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and general corrosion in hostile chemical surroundings. They are characterized by high tensile and yield strength, good creep resistance, and better thermal stability. They retain mechanical properties under high temperature and corrosive service conditions, making them suitable for pressure-retaining and high-stress industrial processes.
