A low-carbon variant of 304 stainless steel, stainless steel 304L has a maximum carbon content of 0.03%, 18–20% chromium, and 8–12% nickel. Excellent corrosion resistance is provided by this composition, especially against oxidising agents and ambient conditions. Its elongation is 40%, its yield strength is 170 MPa, and its minimum tensile strength is 485 MPa. The low carbon content reduces the possibility of carbide precipitation during welding and enhances weldability.
